In our fast-paced consummerist society, everyone struggles to get a little airwave and get a little bit of attention. Well, political commentators are none the least, and oftentimes, they actually embody the biggest clowns in the circus of life, possibly as a way to get noticed. If you think I’m being harsh or overstating, then you obviously haven’t watched the following video, which shows good proof of this principle through the renowned political commentator Bill O’Reilly.

In life as in online romance, rules should be observed!

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

There are rules in life that should be followed – some are written and some unwritten, part of the social contract that binds us all. Likewise when it comes to romance, there are certain rules that should be observed. For example, people who are interested in finding a romantic partnership can usually be found in such places as a bar, a club, and (why not?) an online dating site. When it comes to finding romance, you should follow a certain protocol, and it all begins with being at the right places.

Nowadays, dating sites are fast turning into a favored method for meeting new romantic interests. This kind of service is inexpensive, accessible and reliable, and getting involved in a community with a shared interest is definitely a good way of achieving one’s common goals. In other words, there are many people online with whom you can chat… but if you’re specifically looking for romance, there are websites specializing in such matter that you should make sure to visit.

The best thing about these communities is that besides giving you access to actual people you can date, they also thrive on relevant information that will assist you in carrying out a pleasant and satisfying experience. So if you’re usually shy about meeting new people in the real world, online dating can be a good step-stone towards helping you be more comfortable with this aspect of your human experience.

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

It’s always pretty much the same, isn’t it? I mean, this time of the year – as the weather gets warmer, a lot of people start anticipating the upcoming summer. Why? Because summer is the season where people don’t get the privilege of hiding their extra fat with clothes; so with that in mind, springtime is the time when many people look for the fastest way to lose weight quickly at home. Granted, losing weight is not necessarily rocket science: one basically needs to eat less and exercise more. But it’s just not that simple, is it?

There’s good reason why so many people focus on the fastest way to lose weight, and we all know how it goes. In the fast paced consummerist days we live by, time is of the essence so learning how to lose weight quickly at home can be very useful. As you know there many different ways to lose weight (even though they all revolve around the aforementioned principle of eating less and exercising more);  if you’re worried about losing some of that winter fat, maybe this website will be useful in helping you figure out the perfect diet and exercise program for you. Just remember it’s best to engage healthy habits all year round than just wait for the hot seasons to watch your weight.

Sick ‘n’ tired of this and that and ya askin’ for favours

Do you think subliminal messages should get banned?

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Everyone has heard about subliminal messages, one way or another. Still, you may not really know what a subliminal message actually is. Well, as you will understand from watching this video, a subliminal message is a hidden message, one that we don’t perceive consciously – however it gets impressed in our subconscious in such a way that it might change our behavior without us even realizing it! So naturally, these messages can be powerful tools, and potentially troublesome if used in the wrong way.

A subliminal message can be as harmless has trying to convince you to buy popcorns during the movie break; or it can be as destructive as changing your beliefs. The power of hidden messages can impact out feelings and our very opinions, and for this reasons many people believe there should be a close watch on the usage of hidden messages.

Good news for lazy ebay sellers who want to get in business!

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Today I’m happy to announce another innovative internet-based service, that might come in handy particularly during this period of finantial instability we’re living through. It’s something related with online auctions, but not quite so; well, you might have heard about people who make small fortunes selling everyday items on ebay. In case you don’t know that’s very much possible simply because sites such as ebay have such an amazing exposure that it makes any kind of garage sale you could possibly think of pale by comparisson.

The thing about ebay is that it times some time and commitment; in order to make a lot of money, you’ll want to list hundreds of items, and handle all the technicalities such as taking pictures, writing product descriptions, shipping & handling, customer support, etc. Needless to say, the whole process can get a bit tedious – and that’s a shame because you have all that junk in storage that could possibly be converted to profit… after all, one man’s trash is other man’s treasure, right?

Well, that’s just what makes this such a cool service. In case you don’t know about it, isold it is a new service that specializes in selling items on ebay. You just need to drop your items in the nearest iSold it store, and they’ll handle the technical stuff , sell your items and send your cut of the payment. They charge rates between 30-40% of sold items, but if you ask me, that’s really not as much as it sounds: not when it allows you just clearing your garage and make some extra money in the process.

Virtual Currencies: A new kind of gold, but gold nonetheless!

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Kids and technology… now there’s a combination guaranteed to make a man feel old, every now and then. Just the other day, my nephews were exchanging insights about online gold trading, and I tried to join in the conversation, confident I could teach them a thing or two about finances. Well, as it turns out they weren’t discussing the exact kind of market I assumed… but all in all I ended up learning a thing or two, while dispensing my own general advice in the process.

You see, nowadays there are huge online communities of role playing gamers. These players roam around vast and detailed virtual  worlds which are inhabited both by characters controlled by the computer and (this is where it gets interesting) by other players in the real world, connected through the Internet. These virtual worlds have grown so sophisticated they’ve actually generated their own mini-economies and local currencies. Following naturally, there are many websites out there specializing in the brokerage of such virtual currencies.

So, the kind of trading my nephews were discussing was related with currencies such as WoW Gold, FFXI Gil, or Warhammer Online Gold. At first impression it might sound like a pointless and juveline business, but I must admit I was impressed with the overarching business model: players usually get to experience the game universe for free, but they will be unlikely to go very far in the ranks unless they have heaps of virtual gold to invest in their character. For this reason, there are many people willing to purchase game credits, as well as many people selling in bulk. I’m very intrigued from realizing there are such businesses out there, but all the while I cannot help but feeling somewhat outdated because I wasn’t aware of these modern markets.

A little bit of info about Barcelona!

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

In a privileged position on the northeastern coast of the Iberian peninsula and the shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain in both size and population. It is also the capital of Catalonia, 1 of the 17 Autonomous Communities that make up Spain.

There are two official languages spoken in Barcelona: Catalan, generally spoken in all of Catalonia, and Castillian Spanish. The city of Barcelona has a population of 1.510.000, but this number spirals to more than 4.000.000 if the outlying areas are also included.

The capital of Catalonia is unequivocally a Mediterranean city, not only because of its geographic location but also and above all because of its history, tradition and cultural influences. The documented history of the city dates back to the founding of a Roman colony on its soil in the second century B.C. Modern Barcelona experienced spectacular growth and economic revival at the onset of industrialization during the second half of the 19th century. The 1888 World’s Fair became a symbol of the capacity for hard work and the international outlook projected by the city. Culture and the arts flourished in Barcelona and in all of Catalonia; the splendor achieved by Catalonian modernism is one of the most patent displays.

Barcelona, more than just a single city, is really a collection of multi-faceted and diverse cities. The visitor unfamiliar with its history might be surprised that such a modern and enterprising city preserves its historic Gothic center almost intact, or by the curious contrast between the maze of narrow streets and the grid-like layout of the Eixample, the urban planning “Enlargement” project of the end of the 19th century.

Bidray, online auctions with a major twist!

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Good news, everyone! If you’re a big fan of online autions, chances are you’ll find the concept I’m about to discuss at least interesting, since it introduces a major twist to the tried-and-true formulas for online autions. You may not become a huge fan – or maybe you will – since there are a few key points that make it drastically different from regular auctions, but I think you’ll enjoy knowing about this novelty.

And “novelty” is indeed a great keyword for describing Bidray, altough the term “penny auctions” is probably more illustrative. Well, imagine an auction where you’re not only allowed to increment bids by a single cent, but actually required to do so. Sounds enticing, right? (at least from the buyer’s point of view). But there’s a catch: for every bid you place, you’ll be charged a fee of $1. Naturally, this is meant to stop people from making thousands of $0.01 bids, while making sure the price of the items remains low; also, the money generated from those fees is used to support the website’s operation as well as endorsing some charities – which you also get to choose.

There’s something rather interesting and refreshing about this concept, in the sense it’s aimed at preventing the standard kind of “bid wars” which people normally engage when an item is about to expire. Well, auctions’ time-tracking is also a little different in bidray: whenever someone makes a new bid over an expiring aution, the timer gets automatically extended – from 1 up to 20 minutes, depending on the item’s popularity. To sum it up, the traditional tricks and schemes that people usually try using to turn online auctions to their advantage really don’t apply here.

However, it doesn’t mean that Bidray isn’t a good place to find a great bargain – much the other way around. In fact, the first time I heard about this website was from a forum where some people kept claiming it’s the best thing that happened since eBay was created. I haven’t formed an actual opinion since I’m yet to use the website, but in all circumstance I think the underlying concent is quite ingenious and noteworthy. If someone reading this has some experience using bidray, I hope you’ll toast us with a little insight via comments!
