Tapping into the zetgeist of the times, some designers have stopped showing their collections at the expensive catwalk shows. Designers are now having smaller functions to showcase their collections or one to one meetings with fashion editors or buyers, getting rid of alot of the extravagance. Desginers are either targetting the general public with smaller price tags on their wares, or the rich, who can afford to continue their big spending.
Shops like Debenhams has reported that their designer ranges have actually seen a boost in sales with womens and mens fashion. The beauty market has also seen rises with brands like dermalogica and Eve Lom making profits. Where shoppers are actually thinking wisely about their purchases and buying clothing that is high end in everything expect the price tag. Debenham’s reported a double digit sales increase coming upto xmas while sales and profits increased this year.
The demand in the middle East has seemingly rose as it get lower in Europe and America. So focus has switched to the middle east as some designers start focussing on the market out there to try and gain back some of the revenue they’ve lost from the Amercian and European markets.
So people arent spending as much, but the important thing is that they are still spending. The fashion market and other marketsfor example the skincare market is still shifting products off the shelves. Designers are welcoming the challenge of the recession and letting it inspire them, rather than letting it have a negative imapct.
