Hewlett Packard LaserJet P1005 Printer – Significant For Residential And Small-scale Office Use
The HP LaserJet P1005 printer with HP LaserJet P1005 replacement toners has been designed by Hewlett-Packard to deliver quality monochrome laser printing at a decent rate of speed and with a significant amount of durability and reliability. It features intuitive and simple controls and can be hooked up to a personal computer in different ways, giving it versatility that many computers at this price point don’t have.
As far as that print speed, most users will be satisfied with the 14 pages per minute rate. While this isn’t the quickest printer at this price in that market segment, it usually can be counted on to be the most reliable. Paper feeds in smoothly and is printed out just as smoothly and reliably, giving the P1005 an aura of confidence that will please most users.
It seems clear that HP intended for the 1005 series to be used mainly as a personal-type printer on somebody’s desktop. It can connect to a PC through use of USB or parallel port capabilities. Most users today probably will prefer to use the USB port rather than the older-style parallel port. It doesn’t include the USB cable, though, so keep that in mind when buying a printer.
For such a compact printer intended mainly for computer-to-printer use, Hewlett-Packard has provided a way for it to be shared among a network through Windows Sharing. All software options, then, will be available to every user on the network. Still, it’s probably the case that this printer will end up on more than a few desktops connected to a single computer rather than a network.
In terms of the quality of the print that will emerge from the P1005, Hewlett-Packard has done its job in providing a decent 600 dots per inch of print resolution with HP ink and toner. This can be increased to 1,200 dpi, though, when making use of the included image enhancement technology suite. Most general business applications, however, will be fine looking with just 600 dpi.
Up to 250 sheets of paper can be stored within its included auto load input tray. The output tray — meaning the tray that holds what the printer has put out — can hold about half that amount. Both trays can handle a variety of different-sized paper and other media stock. It’s no problem to print out on transparencies, business cards, envelopes and certain custom-sized paper stock, as well.
Maximum monthly duty cycle — meaning the maximum number of printed pages per month the printer can image — is a more than acceptable 7,000 pages. For the environment in which the printer is intended to operate (small office/home office or very small network), this duty cycle should be more than adequate. After 7,000 pages, minor maintenance would be required, but it is really just very minor in character.
Looked at all together, there really seems to be nothing to dislike about the HP LaserJet P1005 printer. At $167 list, there’s little to quibble about in terms of price and the fact that it can easily connect to just about any personal computer quickly and run off of a wide variety of Windows operating systems is also a plus. It combines excellent durability and printing quality at a decent-enough speed for most any small or home office.
The appearance of the end product is where the HP P1005 compatible toner shines. As should be obvious with Hewlett-Packards reputation, their standard of quality extends to HP printer toner cartridges. Owners everywhere will appreciate the cost savings of ordering ink and toner cartridge online.
