So much for room service: meet the UNITARD!

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Have you met… (insert booming voice effect) UNITARD? In case you’re wondering, he is no other than the superhero of the
vacation rental business! How’s about that for a change? I just caught a glimpse of this vacation rental commercial, and it looks really funny… not to mention its quite educational. You see, the mission of the Unitard is no other than to alert consumers to the financial dangers of hotel rooms. Yes, you’ve heard that right – hotel rooms are generally too cramped, and more expensive than vacation rentals. Did you know that oftentimes you can rent a whole vacation house for less than the cost of a hotel in the same city? Well, think about it! And check out Vacation Rental.org if you want to know more.

Natural meat: maybe I’ll be able to escape the Meatrix, after all?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

If there’s something I get increasingly worried about every day, that’s my family’s food habits… most specifically the quality of the food products in our pantry and freezers. In the past few months, I’ve actually felt compelled to become a vegetarian, since I know the quality of the mean that can be found in most butcher-shops is very questionable. Well, I’ve just found this video promoting something they refer to as Natural Meat, and it certainly looks like a better alternative to regular old meat. I don’t know how “natural” this meat really is, but at least they’re making an effort to ensure customers get access to better meat. I this this is worthy of further research!

Something you may not know about natural scars removal!

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Good news, everyone! If you have a visible scar that keeps shaking your confidence and lowering your self-esteem, there’s now a simple and effortless way to reclaim your natural skin. And I’m not talking about an innovative drug or cutting edge treatment! In fact, what I’ve recently learned was that sometimes all it takes to reduce scarring is a little know-how.

Sounds like a good idea, doesn’t it? Well, I found this completely by chance while looking for a way to help my kids reduce acne scars; I was tired of witnessing all the drama from unwanted scar redness, and one day I just decided I’d google for an answer. My expectations weren’t very high, but as it turns out I came across something that genuinely solved my problem in the simplest imaginable way: using a bunch of grocery items!

In case you’re curious to learn more about this natural method, I’ll show you the blog post from which I first got to know about it all. At first I was also curious, then I quickly became intrigued, and soon enough I was fascinated! And when the time came to actually reduce scarring, this ingenious method worked better and quicker than anything else I’d ever heard or read about.

It’s wiser to get an early start on Halloween costumes!

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

It was during family brunch today that the realization dawned: it’s only a couple of months to Halloween. And since our family takes the wicked evening quite seriously, this is about the right time we start getting prepared. Okay, I’m obviously not going to start carving pumpkins just yet, but you know how it goes with halloween costumes … it’s better to get an early start. That way you get time to come up with a nice costume, and it’s generally a lot less expensive: those costumes tend to get quite heavily priced in the last couple of weeks before Halloween.

As it goes, I was lucky to notice one of my blogger friends had just sent a tweet last evening about this cool site that’s offering free shipping on costumes, for anyone who uses the promo code “pppfree” while checking out their orders. So I guess I might as well take advantage of that offer and save some bucks, right? If you’d like to see the website I’m talking about, it’s the one I linked up there. It’s actually a classy little spot, with a good variety of costumes. In case you’re wondering, yes, I also enjoy dressing up in Halloween! Everyone in my home does, I’m really not joking when I say it’s one of our favorite holidays. I’m still not sure what my costume is going to be this year, but I’m sure something interesting will cross my mind, soon enough. Oh well, let’s wait and see.

Scrooge McDuck and the best Disney World Vacations ever!

Friday, August 21st, 2009

I told you before about some suggestions for great family fun, but of course when it comes to family vacations, la créme de la créme is of course going out to Disney World! Even though there are nowadays so many different kinds of cartoons out there, I’m confident to say that Disney Cartoons still occupy a central roles in both the hearts of my own generation, as well as the hearts of modern age kids. There’s just something magical about characters such as Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, Uncle Scrooge, Donald, Daisy, Chip and Dale… and fortunately, I think that’s something that won’t easily fade away from our collective imaginary.

Do you know what my favorite Disney cartoon is? Uncle Scrooge, of course! It used to be Mickey Mouse when I was a kind – in fact I wasn’t that fond of old Scrooge McDuck back then, not until they came up with that 80’s TV show DuckTales. My older kid used to watch that show all the time, and actually I must admit I also enjoyed those adventures. Also, a few years later in the 90’s I read this amazing book by Don Rosa called “The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck”, and from then on the impression remained consistent, of what an amazing character he really is.

I will never forget how after reading that book I just got this unabashed urge to take my family to Disney World. For a bunch of years my kids had been pestering me about that, and finally the time came when it was actually myself who decided to surprise everyone and take them on a family cruise over to Florida. And what a ride that was! I was so excited from reading the Don Rosa anthology that I kept my children about the origins of the richest duck in the world. Up until then, I had thought he was just a pauper duck, but that single graphic novel showed me there’s really so much more to this unique character.

Anyway, going to Disney World and shaking hands with Uncle Scrooge was really an amazing experience (I clearly remember how my children’s eyes were twinkling with excitement, the first time we spotted the old tycoon). All in all that was probably the single best family vacations I’ve ever had, and just from relieving these memories, I cannot help but to urge you to go ahead and get yourself some Disney World Tickets. Life doesn’t last forever you know, and we ought to learn how to take the best of it as we go along!

Hey kids, how about some Radio Disney Summer Concerts?

Friday, August 21st, 2009

So you’re looking for a fun idea for family vacations? Consider this: Wildwood Vacation. If you haven’t heard about Morey’s Piers in New Jersey, you should know it’s THE single hot spot for a New Jersey family getaway. I was there last year, and it turned out to be a great time! They always hold this Radio Disney Summer Concert Series – which is great because it’s FREE and it features some of the top Disney artists, meaning it’s great for the kids as well as your wallet. Also, finding inexpensive Wildwood new jersey motels is actually simple enough! Just take a look around their new website if you’re curious about the whole thing. Go out with your family, and have lots of fun!

I could repair the kitchen sink on my own, but..

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

I think this is a common plague with most home owners: postponing. There’s always something around a house that could use some fixin’: either it’s a broken fence, a dirty wall or a broken fixture… Invariably, all of us have something of the sort that could be repaired, and all the while time seems to drift by in months and years at a time before we actually take the initiative of getting it done. Myself, I’m really no shining example in this matter, I must confess; for example, my kitchen sink faucet has been leaking for a long while, and my actual kitchen sink could use some retirement. This is something that I always postpone until the next summer, and then until the next winter, and so on. I guess I’ve been thinking about that ever since I moved here, and yet I’ve never gotten past the thinking stage.

But today I’ve made up my mind do to something about it! So I’m looking around for kitchen sinks as well as the help of a skilled professional that will make a good job in setting up my new sink. This is something I feel I could do all by myself, but I’ve decided otherwise for two reasons: 1) it would probably take a while to get it right, and the wife wouldn’t be happy about that; and 2) the wife isn’t all too confident of my home improvement skills. Oh well, at least I’ve finally made up my mind to do away with that leaking faucet… although I’m a little worried I’ve gotten so used to that constant dripping sound, it my kitchen will feel just a little too quiet once the repairs are completed.

Bulk, dry, inexpensive foods… but not unnatractive!

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

There was a time when peope stocked up on dry goods because they were afraid of a nuclear disaster would come about. Nowadays, there are plenty other reasons aiming towards getting Bulk Foods… although setting up a long-lasting reserve of food (just-in-case this-or-that) is still not far from the top priorities. One never knows what tomorrow will bring, but one thing is for sure: as long as one is alive, one will need food. And dry foods can be a great choice because they’re usually a good source of proteins that can be safely kept on storage for months, or even years.

Furthermore, there are many dry foods that can effectively be used as low-cost nourishing food, such as lentils, brown rice and oat groats. And I don’t need to tell you that amazing recipes can be fashioned out of such ingredients, right? Just lentils alone can be a delicious ingredient, provided you know how to properly use it. If you’ve never tried adding lentils to your meat loaf (or using lentils to replace the meat altogther), you should try it someday, there’s a good chance you’ll start seeing these dry ingredients in a new light. Oh, and don’t forget: since most of these foods are available in bulk and since they can be stored for long periods of time, keeping some extra bags in the pantry usually equated with keeping a few extra bills in your wallet!

A little lesson in cat-gastronomy?

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

I know I’m supposed to provide with with informative posts and all that, but it’s weekend so I figured it would be okay to get some lighthearted videos – besides, there’s much to learn from animals, if only we can listen! For example, this kittie has developed a special technique to teach its owners how to recognize it’s hungry… and apparently it works, too! Just goes to show there are some clever animals out there which many things to teach.
